Frank Ocean fait partie de la nébuleuse OFWGKTA, et il a un TUMBLR, bien évidemment.
Il est le crooner de la bande, le romantique, le plus présentable, celui qui fait le moins de vague. Il est nostalgique, pas tout à fait ce que l’on attend de lui au sein d’un tel crew, et c’est pour ça que l’on apprécie son œuvre. Nostalgia, Ultra, son album MP3, disponible tout simplement en cliquant sur la BMW est une sélection de choix de ses meilleurs tubes, sur K7.
Frank Ocean est nostalgique des années 80, où la voiture allemande était de mise, les sons étaient prétentieux et synthétiques, une époque où l’on essayait de se remettre du orange, où Frankie était en route pour Hollywood, jusque dans les films de Brian de Palma. Novacane est le titre qui résume bien l’ambiance du projet, un slow relax, cheesy, sexué et moite, qui vous projette extatiquement dans une autre ère. On aime les références, le R&B de rue, le soleil couchant, et les drogues qui vont avec, le chanteur aussi. Il culminera avec American Wedding, s’accaparant l’Hotel California, angoissant, des Aigles, pour une version provocante et ironique, un hymne à son cher pays. Il finira avec une poésie écologique, un retour aux sources, une fable libidineuse dont il a le secret, Nature Feels.
Frank n’a pourtant que faire de ces époques, il reprend à son compte Radiohead, MGMT ou Coldplay, brave son label, et offre un petit moment de bonheur à ses auditeurs.
Il est en 2011, il outrepasse les clivages, il est inclassable, malgré une formule très classique.
